Present Day

Nowadays, stories of the Great War and the calamities that ravaged the world are nothing more than that, mere stories. Life in Reverie has been calm and pleasant for as far back as the memories of many mortal generations. There is, however, one story that the citizens of Reverie, especially those who reside in Corona City, hold close to their hearts; the story of the gods of Life and Death.

The legend that persisted through time tells the story that before Ansel created a safe haven around Reverie, the God of Life stepped up to try and fight back against the calamities, to save the mortal population, even those who did not deserve to be saved. Even though he fought fiercely and bravely, the God of Life himself was tragically slain in his battle against the calamities. Gods and mortals alike were stricken with an intense, heartbreaking grief from the passing of their beloved god, but the storm did not stop there; where was his mirror, the God of Death? In a strange twist of events, after the God of Life’s passing, Death was nowhere to be seen again. Based on the timing of the tragedy and the dastardly magic emitting from the calamities, it was rumored that Death’s magic had something to do with the creation of the calamities, and after Life’s passing, they vanished before anyone could make the connection. To this day, it’s unknown whether the God of Death is alive or deceased.

Despite the tragic story of Life and Death, their essences still live on in this present day. It’s well known that the current royal family of Reverie, the Hoshizoras, all have close ties to not only Life and Death, but Ansel as well. King Daijiro is revered across the land as being the high priest of fate, the mortal closest to and most favored by head god Ansel, granting him his status as king of Reverie. Not only this, but his younger twin siblings, Prince Akari and Princess Kaede, have been known for the extraordinary circumstances that had surrounded their birth. From birth, the two were seemingly blessed as the Oracle of Life and Oracle of Death respectively, granting them both the ability to hear the distant wills of the long gone gods of Life and Death. While it’s unknown why exactly they were given such a gift, both of them carry their duties as oracles with pride.

Aside from mortals keeping the heartbreaking tale of Life and the mysterious disappearance of Death in their memories, day to day life in Reverie is truly nice. Because of how safe and secure Ansel’s barrier has kept the island throughout all this time, those that live here have always been free to explore the island and its cities without worry, follow their passions and live the life they have paved for themselves. There are many people who have pursued academics, others who are more fascinated by art and magic, and of course those who are religious and show their devotion to one or many gods of the pantheon.

There are, lastly, those who concern themselves with the world outside of the barrier, but is worrying about the beyond truly worth it?
